Ok whats the diff. besides shape. I play baritone now and need to buy an instrument to practice at home because I hate taking the baritone on the bus. Im finding some very cheap valve trombones so would it be more money wise to buy it? Any other stuff you want is greatly appreicaited.
Thanx in advance

Aside from the shape, the sound is slightly different, because of the shape. Also, the availablilty of gigs is much different, for most will call for trombone OR baritone/euphonium. If you don`t already own a baritone or euphonium, I highly suggest getting one of those first, as a main instrument, then you can experiment with toys like a valve bone.

If money is an issue, and you just need one at home to mess around with (not play gigs or with anyone else for that matter), it looks like you could snag a baritone off ebay for just under $200... I can`t imagine the atrocity of a sound it would make, but I assume for practice reasons it couldn`t be that much different.

A far as the trombone goes, I`ve heard people go on about tuning problems and sound quirks. My guess is that the trombone has an brassier sound, and generally not as useful as a baritone. I guess it would be like the trumpet but sometimes without the ability to move the tuning slides.

If you do opt for the $200 baritone, lemme know how it sounds. I`ve always been curious to how those $100 trumpets and $250 french horns sound.. (probably awful).
