What exactly is wrong with the tuning slide? And what kind of horn is it? It is possible to put a new crook in or take out dents, but sometimes it is cheaper to buy a new slide.

if it has any holes or tears in it(ive seen it dont ask) then replace it. if its dented you can take it to a tech and they will tell if how much they can get out. but remember, if you take it to a crappy tech your going to come out with the same crappy tuning slide just with no dents.

My bell hand a dent that was less than 2 inches long and the repair guy at the music store said it would cost $35 to fix!!! i was like forget it. Having a dent in ur slide isnt the same as having a dent on ur bell....... it`s worse. I really dont think there is any way u can fix it by urself. The only place to fix it that i can think of is at the music store which get pricey.

instrument maintenance is VERY important, with things like dents in the bell or dents in the tuning slide its going to effect the overall sound or resonance of the horn. These are things that you should get fixed. it should be pricey because of the specialized repair.

I guaruntee it makes a difference. Any imperfection in the metal work WILL change the resonance, that`s simple physics. You might not be able to tell, or the difference might be so minimalistic that it would not be worth it to fix it, (I have several on my jazz horn), but they all make a difference.
