bass trombone is the second largest bore horn allowing the trombone to play in the tuba register. typical bore size of a bass trombone is .562-.578
usually has two valves one being the F valve and the other is Gb.

i play bass also. Of course, the music I have now calls it "trombone 3" and i have to play and F above the scale on a schilke 59.... and i haven`t even been playing that long.
Bass trombone has the F trigger, and also another one that by itself would be Gb I think, but often the valve is located on the slide for the F trigger, so its called a D trigger (mine is tuned so that VVC is the same position as VEb). On mine, like stated, you can only use The F trigger, or both. Its got a 9 1/2" bell, and it gets loud....

BTW..... BASS TROMBONE IS ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE A ---REGULAR--- F ATTACHMENT TROMBONE. THE ONLY DIFF IS IT HAS A BIGGER BELL, A BIGGER MOUTHPIECE, THICKER TUBING, AND IT CAN PLAY LOWER THAN A REGULAR F ATTACHMENT T-BONE.

a bass trombone isnt a tenor trombone. the overall sound quality is much different from tenor. The reason for this is the larger bore then extra weight of the vavles and their respective slides also the larger bell. All that making the horn sound much more conical than a tenor, not to mention it extends down into the tuba register.
there is also a Contrabass trombone which is even bigger.

I recently purchased a new bass trombone on eBay. It was advertized as being "nearly new" and that the guy had bought it for over $1400. I figured the $285 it was being advertized for was not bad to bid on - so I did.
I won. Was not expecting that. Then I found that he had several others for sale - with exactly the same pictures and ads. Figured I was a real sucker.
ebay seller is houstonbrass.
It arrived. Silver in color. Very nice looking. It also was brand new. The name on the bell was "Maestro".
I have played around with it some. It had been years since I had played much. But since I had the new `bone, I had to at least play it. It may not be a Bach or anything. But for an amateur like me, it really isn`t bad. Sure, the ad was a lie. It may really not be a great deal. I don`t know. But I figure I got what I paid for - and maybe a little more.
But now that I have this `bone, and my old tenor `bone, I have seen alto and sopranos for sale and I`m wondering if anyone knows anything about `em? There`s a Jupiter Soprano trombone I`ve seen - a Bb instrument that has the same basic range as the trumpet - but with a slide. I`ve also seen a vintage York sop bone. All the altos I`ve seen, though, are much more expensive.
Anybody have experience with these less common `bones?
Thanks in advance for your reply.
