I am interested in learning the violin. I have been doing some brand researching and whatnot. It is very daunting with all of the different brands out there .
I came across a brand from China that is still hand made called Primo.
Does anyone know anything about that brand?
Is it any good?
Please let me know. Help is greatly appriciated
Thanks

Primo violins are made by Jinyin, a company which is very eager to please and very keen to get it right. They deserve to succeed and they are doing so.
We bought in a trial batch from Jinyin (the Primo brand name belongs to the US importer) and I have to say that, on a dollar for dollar basis, i was impressed. That said, so far no customers have chosen them, they don`t LOOK much. But they have nice low bridges which will be preferred by many players and, with Corelli Crystal strings, they do indeed have a good tone. The bows were not good.
The ones coming through the US importer, and thus carrying the Primo brand label, will be higher priced though.

I think it`s less about the brand and more about the tone, and right shape for you. If you can, take a violinist or teacher with you...and play a few. Choose that way. I posted a little about buying violins here: http://www.8notes.com/f/31_85268.asp
Good Luck!
