Hello Sean:
I just noticed this reply to a query of yours
"I suppose the way you clean wood furniture like a table is the same way you would clean a violin, like with Pledge, but I would just suggest wiping the violin off along with the strings with a cotton cloth."
. This week, I happened to visit Heinl`s, a very prestigous violin shop in Toronto, and asked the same question. They shuddered at the thought of using Pledge, but did recommend to me a preparation of their`s that gave me spectacular results. As they say, use it very sparingly. I was thrilled with the results.
Their email address is ghcl@idirect.com.
Kindest regards, Gerry

Look if it is an older violin, either use a cotton cloth, or purchase the standard violin cleaner at a music store. If it is a newer violin, use a cotton cloth, with a little bit of rubbing alchohol, or you could just buy the cleaner at the store... lol
hmm... now DO NOT use the cleaners that you would use on your furniture! A Violin is made differently than your furniture! Your violin is more delicate, and the chemicals can eventually distort the sound.
I`ve played violin for 10 years, and I`ve learned from wise teachers. I`ve learned of course how to play the violin, and also how to maintain it.
