Does anybody get sore from practicing? I don`t know if this is suppossed to happen, but after practicing, my shoulder rest digs into my collarbone, and my chinrest digs into my neck. Is this supposed to happen?

Nope... it`s not ok to hurt when you practice. Make sure that you have a good shoulder pad.... but most important... relax. When you first pick up the violin.... conciously relax your shoulders. Play long bows... and notice... are you still relaxed? You can have a very powerful bow arm.. and still be relaxed. Spend some time just playing by ear... anything that comes to mind.. bow and finger anything... and focus on relaxing your body and enjoy playing.
Hope this helps.

If you get sore from practicing, then that probably means you aren`t holding your instrument right. Make sure you`re resting your violin in the correct spot, not on your collar bone. Getting a good shoulder rest helps a lot, I suggest getting a wolf. They`re expensive but worth it. Make sure your posture and bow hold are both correct aswell. Do you have a teacher? If you don`t I suggest getting one, because if you don`t have one you will start to develope bad habits.

There are many sources for shoulder pads. I`ve ordered mostly from SHAR music... but look around.

Never get sholder pands.
These are exellent for children or bigginers, but if you practice a lot,
get a Wolf or a KUN.
You dont want a bad, crooked back and neck for the rest of your days.

When you are sore, it means that you are tight somewhere in your musceles.
To help your muscles to relax, it help by going for a swim.
swimming at least once a week, is very refreshing for your body.

I have a wolf and they dont look as nice as the Kun because they are so adjustable, difficult to explain but there are screws on each foot and another one to widen the whole thing so it can fir on different sizes, its worth investing in one as they are so adjustable, but then again I tried out a cheap and nasty on the other day and it was as comfortable as anything so its pretty much down to preference
