Hi,

I am brand new to the violin and I was trying to learn to tune it and I broke a string. I am thinking that I should just go ahead and buy a whole new set for it so that way I will know that they are all the same, but I don`t know what to buy as I haven`t a clue about the violin. I am seeing numbers like 4/4, and 3/4 and such and descriptions such as super sensitive, heavy duty. So needless to say I am very confused.

I think that the violin that I have is a standard violin, so what would be the best strings and brand for me to purchase and what is a good online venue to purchase the strings? Also I read somewhere on one of the posts that fiddlers use mostly metal strings and violinists use something else. What would be best for me as I am not going to use this to fiddle(not sure of terminology, please forgive me if I messed it up!) Any help or information would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

Carly

If you are an adult, chances are you have a full size violin (4/4). Popular cheap brands are Prelude, Dogal, Astrea.
