Controling the Bow

I wanted to know about the control of the Bow. I`m pretty assured that Im holding it correctly. I seem to have good control playing on the farthest 1/3rd of the bow. When I try to use the center of it, my bow bounces off the strings and it becomes difficult to have a strong control. Is this something that I have to get use to or am I perhaps holding it incorrctly.

Control of the bow is something that comes with time, but it starts with proper hold on the bow. Here`s a diagram of how to properly hold it: http://www.violinonline.com/bowhold.htm
A lot also depends on the speed of the bow, how much weight you allow on each part of the bow, and whether or not you have the proper amount of rosin. The frog is the hardest part to get good sound out of, as you hand is practically directly over the string, which puts weight.
That`s my two cents anyway.

Well I can remember having my shoulders pulled and my elbow held easily (It was only a year ago !) I was told that the weight of the bow differs with which part of the bow is in contact with the string, the top end will put less weight on than the frog end (If you think purely mechanically this sounds OK)so to maintain the note throughout the length of the bow you need to apply pressure as bow from frog to end and lessen the pressure off as you bow up again.
This is why I said that the bow control was the hardest I found to learn on another post, But as already said it comes with practise, and probably a bit more practise then some more after that {-:
but it will come, Oh and try to relax more The more tense you are the more the bow will bounce around the place.

Your bow strings may be to tight. Make sure you can press them to the bow, with gentle pressure.

Another thing to think about: Are you leaning too far forward? That will make gravity want to pull the bow away from the violin - esp. on the top two strings.
Also, think about making sound by having a <i>heavy</i> arm rather than <i>pressing</i>. Its amazing how much input your brain has on the violin!
