Congrats on deciding to play the violin, it is a wonderful instrument. In the begining I felt that my teacher was taking things to slow so I taught myself the fingerings out of a All For(Four?) Strings, beginer. It was my favorite, in fact I taught my last student out of it. Essentials for Strings are good books too. Good luck, but try not to get to far ahead without an instructor, there are many bad habits that are hard to correct, but with some help you can prevent them.
