I was just wondering how hard is violin to play. I play the oboe and thought it would be really cool to play the violin for an extra insturment. I mainly wnat to know how hard is it to learn the finmgerings and positions because I already know how to read music and rythms.

Hardest I find is bowing.
Once you train your fingers notes are quite automatic, but a steady bow does take a bit of practise.
Oh and to add to a different thread I`ve just taken up the violin myself (Been a year now !)I`m 47 so it`s never ever to late to start {-:

I started playing the violin when I was 4,I am 19 now, so i don`t really remember how difficult it was in the beginning. However, I would like to say that trying something new will always be somewhat of a challenge, although nothing so great that it can`t be mastered. Three words that will make it easier: Practice, Practice, Practice.

I started playing when I was 7... I`m 17 now.
The hardest thing I remember is learning to hold the bow steadily like others have said.
