I`ve never played the violin before. I`m looking to purchase my first violin. I want something that i can keep as i progress grades, and also i want something that won`t make me sound worse than i am... I hear so many mixed opinions! Some say student violins (i.e Stentor 1) is fine, others say even Stentor 2 sounds like a cat dying and will cause great frustration.
What should i choose?
I am going to get a violin off the internet because i live in the middle of nowhere and can`t drive so walking all around the city centre will be a chore.
I can only afford up to £150 though...can i get a decent violin for this?
Please please recommend makes! I don`t know what to look out for in selecting a violin and have no one to help me,

Check out www.wwbw.com. If you are at full size, the Karl Willhelm 22, Florea Alexandria and Bellafina 300 are good. Check out the rating from previous buyers.
Good luck

I was told to consider either a zeller or a Gliga Genial 1. Don`t know if this means anything or whether my informant was biased.

Try renting a violin for a few months first - so you can save up some more money (150 pounds for a violin is very little if you want something to last you the first few years), and so when you ARE ready to purchase a decent student instrument, you`ll be able to evaluate it yourself - ease of playing, sound, response.
