I am a brand new beginner looking to try to teach myself how to play. I play many other instruments including guitar, drums, tuba, and piano, and am intrigued by the violin.
Earlier today, I borrowed a violin and a beginner book from my school and brought it home. The first thing I learned was the correct way to hold the bow. The following lesson, however, was on posture and the correct wya to hold the violin. My problem came when the instructions simply said "Attach shoulder rest in the proper position on the violin" without any futher instructions or diagrams. What is the proper position? Is it very simple and I`m just missing it? Any help will be appreciated.

What kind of shoulder rest do you have? If it`s a Kun or Kun knock-off, the rubber feet attach going across the widest part of the lower part of the violin (on the back, of course). The side that has the arch to it should be sitting on your shoulder, and the other side, more to the right of your shoulder.
Good luck!
