I am thinking of getting a Nagoya Suzuki student violin for my child. I came across two models. Would like some recommendation as to which is a better buy. Both cost about the same.

Model NS20
Nagoya-Suzuki Violin with solid spruce top, solid maple back and sides ebony fingerboard, pegs, tailpiece, steel strings with four fine tuners. Carved in China and finished in Japan. All our Nagoya Suzuki instruments are shop adjusted in the United States to assure optimum playability.

Model NS220
Genuine Suzuki instruments made in Nagoya, Japan have become the standard of quality and value in fractional sized string instruments. All of our Nagoya Suzuki instruments are shop adjusted in the United States to assure optimum playability 220 has a pressed (solid) top. and is the overwhelming choice of Suzuki educators everywhere, offering a responsive, resonant instrument at an affordable price. Painted purfling and chromesteel strings, pressed top and back (scroll has plastic top).

Comments, anyone? Thank you!

I don`t know how much you`re going to pay for those but the second one, at least, is using a very low specification - painted purfling and a pressed top are features almost unheard of these days. I suspect you`re paying an awful lot for the name.

Yes. The violin of quality of the second model can be bought as used violin at
no more than a hundred dollars in my city. It is sold in China at 30 USD.

I suggest that you may buy an used on by searching your local advertisement.
If the instructor help you, you may spend as much as 200 dollars.

Yes. You are right.
I found one with much better quality online, such as:
http://store.musicbasics.com/vln-20.html
You can have better quality AND also prices as well.

I recognize the text as coming from the Shar catalog. I have not seen nor heard those instruments.

I have purchased two ns20 nagoya Suzuki violins for my daughter. They have both been wonderful instruments. In fact, I have one listed on ebay now. If you`d like to bid, the item number is: 7387586320
