I recomend playing a scale over and over. memorize it so you can look @ ur bow while playing it. Keep your arm steady. play in forte.

When bowing make it look like your bow is turning in to you, or look in a mirror sideways and make corrections. Keeping your thumb bent is also a number one key, if you are a new player this is very common. Just remember bent thumb, bow toward you. (it is an opticle illlusion, if you think it looks strait it will be slanting )

P.S.- When you first start out try not to practice more than 30 min a day at max, as because your muscles are forming and they are prone to become weak, the recipe for bad habbits that are hard to break.

OOPS, In the orchestra, ya, the have been doing it A LOT! longer. You have to work up to it.

Imagine this, you ate this one type of cereal your whole life, nothing else. Then all the sudden you ate a big steak, what do you think will happen? I would rather not go there, lol.

Moral of story is that, 30 minutes is more than enough at the level you start at to get the job done. You could really hurt yourself, you may not feel it when you are in position, but it is gonna hit you like a brick wall when you relax your muscles.

Yes, it's true.

Do you practise everyday? If practise more often, I found that it's a lot of progress for a beginner as I do.

R u planning to join an orchestra?

yup. Since u been in orchestra, how long would you take to play for a performance?

what would be your advice to get greater progress in playing violin?

I found the way grabbing the violin will slowly bending to one side as you play longer.

it is actually really easy, get a teacher, practice as much as you can but relax your muscles for 10*15 every 30 min )i hoped that made sense( and make sure you are doing everything right, dont go ahead on the songs unless your teacher says so, that will make bad habits.

Overall it is talent, a calling or a natural either one or all. this may not be the instrument for you, and dont get discouraged, there is one out there for everybody.

well as on how long, it depends on the level on how good your orchestra is. usually 30 min+

Ooh, I have the PERTECT solution. Purchase the Flesch Etudes book. It may be extremely boring, but it'll improve your bowing like nothing else. Also, buy the Bach Etudes book, too. (I forgot the exact name, but it's very easy to find). Bach is the foundation to all bowing. Trust me on this. By doing these two things, I got a full Scholarship at NYSSSA (google it), sat concertmaster, and am in New York Youth Symphony, and perform in Carnegie. My bowing used to be TERRIBLE. I only used to use the upper half, and was lucky if I bent my wrist even once.

Hope this helps! I know it did for me.^_^

Hello
Follow the excercise in the site http://www.violinwizard.com/violin_playing.html
under bow hold. I also bought the bow-right which is listed there, because even though my teacher corrects it ( iam intermediate)when she teaches , i constantly makes mistakes when i practise.

After buying that my teacher does not complain much.

Thanks..
