Hey

I don't personally play the violin, but my girlfriend does and she's very passionate about it. Her birthday is coming up soon (Nov. 18) and I wanted to buy her something related to her violin. I was thinking of buying a bow with a personalized messaged engraved on it. So my question is: Is that even possible? If yes, then how can I do that? If not, then any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
kraz

hey, kraz
as far as I know the only company that will put a custom mesage on a bow is codabow. However they can be a bit pricey so it's up to you.

Thanks gmviolin. I really appreciate your help. I was starting to give up hope of anyone replying to my message. I will definitely look into codabow.

hey kraz gmviolin again I did some diging and most bow makers will do such custom jobs. I do have to bits of advice and a question. One order the bow soon most must be ordered in advance. and two if it's going to be a gift I would also buy bow case, must stores carry them. Finally my question how long has your girlfriend been playing?

I believe she's been playing for around seven years.
Do you recommend any certain manufacturer? I wouldn't want to buy her a bow that would only last her a few months. Also, I don't know anything about bows, or violins for that matter so are there any other factors I should take into consideration, such as the type of bow (if there are different kinds of bows) or sizes, etc?

<Added>

I believe the one she's using now is made of ?Brazil Wood? if there is such a thing.

ok first yes brazil wood is real. Although that leaves alot of ranges in quallity in there. Now I wouldn't be a spokes person for any company however for your purposes I would have to say codabow. The bows are made of carbon fiber which besides being as near indistructible as you can get also lets them be extremly light. The truth be told though they're not the best out there all though they have alot of indorsment from profesionals. There is one other company I can sugest that is Jon Paul bows. These bows are more afordible for the most part. Although I'm not sure if they do personal inscriptions. You would have to contact them.
So coda bow or Jon Paul
I would stay clear of any wooden bows since you don't have any personal expirence with violins. One other thing as a general rule when buying anything to do with any type of stringed instrument the higher the price the better the quality. And one last thing most of the orders take a few weeks so you may want to have a smaller gift just incase it dosn't get there on time.
by the way the website names are codabow.com and jonpaulbows.com
P.S. both websites have dealer locators go to a dealer.
