Hey, I'm considering adding violin to my list of instruments I play and I've been looking around for beginner violins. I've seen plenty in the price range that I am going for, but I question whether these will provide an "acceptable" tone. Of course a beginner violin will not sound perfect, but would I be able to achieve a tone worthy of more than practice?

I reckon you'd best rent or lease one first with a violin builder. Then you'll usually have a decent instrument to begin with. Then if you want to keep playing, you can look further into buying one. Well, that's what my teacher made me do when I first started out.
