I am a percussionist and I just purchased a violin. I see on Violinonline.com that it only shows first and third violin. Why isn`t there a second, or what instrument plays this part? Thanks. Please answer here as I am away from my own computer for several weeks.

1st and 3rd?? Don`t you mean 1st and 2nd? There are 2 violin sections that usually play 2 different parts of the same piece of music.

Umm...Usually a violin plays the Violin II part. There can be a Violin III, IV, V, et cetera. But it usually rolls off to Viola around III.

Ohhhh! You can have as many positions as you want, but it`s pretty hard to play so small up there. I`ve never gone past 12th position.
