That`s a hard question. First thing you should learn some notes, get down to a music centre and get a beginners book, or buy it off ebay. If your trying to teach yourself, be warned there`s only so far you can go by yourself, the basics. I mean I didn`t even know how to handle a violin when I started and that`s tricky in itself as it feels so abnormal. but the violin should be comfortable under your jaw(not the chin!) use a sponge(if you don`t have a shoulder rest) to prop it up so you just tilt your head resting on it slightly. Then stretch out your arm along the body of the violin and wrap your hand around the scroll, if you can`t reach then you need a smaller violin & if you can and your elbow is seriously bent then u need a larger violin. hope that helps, if you want more advice, e-mail me

I think the first thing you need to know is how to hold the violin an bow. It is hard to explain is words, but they have books in music stores that tell you how to play the violin. Hope that helps

One, if you cant read notes, I will show you where the open strings are, and two LISTEN TO VIOLIN MUSIC ON THIS SITE WHILE READING THE NOTES AT THE SAME TIME because you have to listen where the notes are!!

If you dont know this then the highest to the lowest strings are the E A D G. The open E is between the first and second line, the open A is between the third and forth line and the open D is under the fifth line. The lowest note on the piece of sheet music is the G. Just like Joseph said, get the book that will tell you how to play the violin.
