Hi.
About a week ago I got this violin off of ebay and it just came in the mail today. So I take it downstairs to my room and take it out of the case. Then I try to play it with the bow, but theres no sound. I tried putting some rosin (whatever that is. someone explain?) on it, but still got nothing. And I tried tightening the thingy on the bow (sorry I`m not up on my violin lingo yet). Is there something wrong with the violin/bow or am I just stupid?

Hi,
notings wrong with the violin just get a butter knife or something sharp and scracth the rosin until it is white on the top don`t worry if it chips and get a cd that gives lessons or go to a teacher before you do anything i didn`t and broke mine at first and the (thing on the bottom of the bow is a frog)

Yes, scratch the rozin and rub lots of it on the horse hair. New bows usually come with no rozin which would make the violin have no sound if you tried to play it.

I wouldn`t scratch, it, just set yourself down for half an hour and bow over the rosin over and over and over again. And tighten the bow hair so it`s parallel with the stick 9but not beyond that point).
