Hello all,

My question concerns Poliakin's "The Canary", a more classical conversion of The Hot Canary. There is one passage which I don't seem to grasp at all. (see pic)

question 1: How are the harmonics circled in red performed? They seem like regular artificial harmonics but the problem is that it can barely be heard since the heightlies beyond our hearing capabilities. And still I once heard a performance of this version and somehow it sounded different. Any ideas why?

question2: I can't seem to find an easy fingering for the one in blue. The fingering written down is the easiest I could find.

Seems like this peace is performed alot in the jazz version but not in this classical version

thanks in advance!

The harmonics circled in red are "regular" artificial harmonics, sounding two octaves above the circular filled-in noteheads. Human hearing is said to extend roughly from twenty cycles per second to 20,000 cycles per second. The lower of these harmonics sounds four octaves above middle C with a frequency of about 4,176 cps (middle C is about 261 cps). The higher sounds four octaves and a perfect fifth above middle C with a frequency of about 6,264 cps, well within the range of human hearing.

The harmonics circled in blue are notated as if they were artificial but can be played as natural harmonics. Your fingering should work. Depending on the context (which you don't really show), 0, 1, 2 should work as well.
