Hello gang. My name is Joe, and I live in Quebec (mais oui!). I`ve been playing fiddle for about a month now (so sorry, I mean, violin, of course)... and I`ve taken the route of several other adventurous forum users (including the dubiously named Lucifer and Pab...Pablo?) and am learning without a teacher. (Carpal tunnel my ass. I`ve studied anatomy and physiology and know how to play without damaging myself). I`ve been learning quickly (there`s an erstwhile virtuoso viola player who`s only been playing six months and a healthy bit of competition between the two of us) and have a strong cello background, but there`s something that has me stymied. I`ve noticed that I can attain a smooth downbow, but my upbow is shaky. Not really shaky on a large scale, but on a big enough scale to blow my cool when I`m trying to impress the pants off the charming young environmental sciences student who has become my muse. (But I digress...) My string crossings are smooth (ish) in both directions... but the bowing itself is trembling ONLY ON THE UPBOW. Any ideas?

What kind of bow do you use? It might happen if the bow isn`t weighted properly.
