I'm a volunteer for NTDTV, which is sponsoring a Chinese International Violin Competition. Just wanted to spread the word so people who are Chinese or of Chinese descent who can play Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, etc. can come check it out

Mission
The Chinese International Violin Competition is one of a series of world music events sponsored
by New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV). Its purpose is to provide Chinese from around the
world with a platform to exchange Chinese and Western cultures and art.

Organizer
The Chinese International Violin Competition is sponsored by New Tang Dynasty Television
(NTDTV) and will be televised around the world through satellite, cable and internet.

Panel of Judges
The Panel of Judges for the Chinese International Violin Competition shall be composed of
professional veteran violinists and responsible for judging contestants’ performances. The
decisions of the panel shall be final.

Procedures and Competition Repertoire
1. The competition is divided into three rounds: Preliminaries, semi-finals, and finals.
1) Preliminary pieces (Piano Accompaniment Required): contestants are required to
choose the 1st movement plus cadenza from one of the following concerti.
‧K. 216 (Mozart Concerto No. 3, K. 216)
‧K. 218 (Mozart Concerto No. 4, K. 218)
‧K. 219 (Mozart Concerto No. 5, K. 219)
2) Semi-final pieces: contestants are required to play one of the following pieces:
‧Beethoven concerto Op. 61, 1st movement plus cadenza (Allegro ma
non troppo). (Piano Accompaniment Required)
‧ Bach, Sonata No. 1 for solo violin, G minor, BMV 1001, Fuga
3) Final pieces:
i. Contestants are required to choose from below one of Paganini’s Caprices.
‧B minor No. 2
‧A minor No. 5
‧C major No. 11
‧E major No. 15
‧C major No. 18
‧A major No. 21
ii. Contestants are required to choose from below one of the two pieces by Wieniawski
(Piano Accompaniment Required).
‧Scherzo-tarantelle, Op. 16
‧Polonaise No. 1, Op. 4, D major
2. Contestants will be asked to play either the whole pieces or portion(s) of them, and the length
of playing will be determined by the Panel of Judges, who will also have the right to suspend
contestants’ playing.
3. Contestants are required to play from memory.
4. The Panel of Judges will provide piano accompaniment for the contestants, who may also
choose to bring their own accompanists.

Eligibilities
1. All students or teachers from professional performing arts academies and every violinist who
has reached a professional level may sign up for the competition, provided they are 13 years of
age or older.
2. Eligibilities: The Panel of Judges will examine all application materials before mailing the
invitation by the Organization Committee to all eligible contestants, who will in turn obtain
their visas to USA and register with the Committee.

3. Application package:
1) The applicant should fill out and submit the forms for the Chinese International Violin
Competition and Resume, both of which can be downloaded from the Competition’s
Web site. Signature of guardian is required if applicant is under 18 years old.
2) The applicant should provide two 1x1 inch color photos (digital photos preferred) and a
copy of their valid ID.
3) The applicant should send in the latest recordings of his/her recital (10 minutes
minimum) in the format of high quality cassette, audio CD, VCD or DVD (preferably in
NTSC format). The VCD or DVD must not be enhanced or edited. The information of
the applicant should be clearly marked on the cover of cassette or disk. In addition, no
subtitles or logos that reveal any information about the applicant may appear within the
image or else it will be considered an act of forfeiture. If the applicant has difficulty in
fulfilling this request, please inform the Competition’s Organizing Committee.
4) The above application materials should be sent to the Competition’s Organization
Committee through registered mail. All application materials shall not be returned.
4. A US$50 registration fee shall apply. We take cash, traveler’s check, or money orders. Please
make your check payable to New Tang Dynasty Television.

The Competition shall be held July 25 through 27, 2008 according to the following schedule:
Contestant Registration & Orientation: Wednesday, July 23rd
Rehearsal: Thursday, July 24th
Preliminaries: Friday, July 25th
Semifinals: Saturday, July 26th
Finals (including Award Ceremony): Sunday, July 27th

Awards
One Gold Award will receive (US$10,000)
One Silver Award will receive (US$3,000)
One Bronze Award will receive (US$1,000)
One “Rising Star” Award will receive an exquisite hand-made violin from a renowned Asian violin maker.
A number of outstanding performance awards.

Accommodation and Transportation
1. The Competition Organization Committee will recommend hotels in New York City for
contestants and those accompanying them.
2. Contestants and their entourage shall pay for their own accommodation and transportation.
