I just purchased a new violin yesterday--Vasile Gliga Professional 'GAMA'--and when at first there was a sort of subtle scratchiness in the tone, I thought it was because I needed to put a bit more rosin on the bow... so I did, and the scatchy sound was still there. So I thought that maybe I just needed to get used to the instrument, because when I played my old violin, it sounded just fine. I have been playing the new one quite a bit, to get used to it, and still even today it has that slight kind of sand-paper sound in the tone. It is very slight, but it isn't as clear as I would like it to be. Maybe is it because the strings just need to break in? How long does that take in general? These are Dominant strings and I have heard good things about them, but...? I don't remember having this problem with my first violin. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you
