I cannot get a d (above) out on my violin (on the A string) without it sharply squeaking, i have only just started teaching myself how to play so if you have any information on this problem please tell me, and as well if you have any info on the best books to teach yourself on the vioiln, i would greatly appreciate it. If anyone else has any other information that could help a beginner that would be great!

The string could be touching the arm. either replace the bridge or make it a bit higher by putting small strips of paper under it..

not the best solution but it worked for me =)

are you playing too close to the bridge? if so, try playing this note closer to the finger board. Also, this is a higher note and high notes need more bow. And make sure you aren't pressing too hard on the bow.

Hope this helps and good luck!
