Hello guys!
I decided I want to learn the violin. I won't have lessons, I will try to learn it by myself, so if anyone knows some good, online, and free site/youtube channel/ebook for learning the violin [except 8notes, ofcourse ], it would be really nice to share.

Soooo... First off, I would like to ask if the chinese violins that cost around 100 euros really suck. Do they really have a different sound of those that cost around 250-500 euros? [cause I'm not even thinking about buying a 1000-euro violin! I'm still a beginner!]
So is there a difference in the sound, or the violin may brake down very easily? Or will I have problems with it's tuning?

Also, I would like to ask about the term "student" violin. I've seen sites that sell violins, and some of them are referred to as student violins, but some of them are not [and they are at the same category price, about 100-500 euros!]. So, what is the difference?

One more thing. I have an electronic tuner for my guitar. Do I have to buy a new one that is especially for violin, or the one I already have can be used for tuning the violin?

Thanks in advance, I'm really looking forward to your replies!

I sell Chinese violins,I have been to China about 30 times looking for good violins with as low a price as possible for students just starting out.(" Student Violin") There are some that are junk!!! but if you are able to try them out you can find a good one. Don`t buy the cheepest one you find.

I buy violins that are 4 or 5 times the price of the cheepest violins. (The cheep ones are selling at the factory for under $20.00 US.) I sell them after set-up ( I spend about 2 hour setting them up right.) for about the cost of the set-up pluss my cost.

The thing you need to look out for ,is the set-up. If the violin is sold to you just as it was set-up in China at the factory, You will have to take it to a violin shop to have it set-up right.

What do you mean to set it up right? Change the strings and the bridge?

The set-up is importent!!
The bridge is one thing that needs to be fixt. They are to tall to thick and just plain unfinished .The strings are not in the right spacing and the shape of th top of the bridge is often rong so that it will made it hard to play. The soundpost may not be in the right spot. The tailpiece may be to close to the back of the bridge. ( The tailpiece string is too long.)
the nut ( at the top of the fingerboard ) has thestring spacing rong or the strings are to high off the finger board at the top . some times the groves in the nut are to deep.

All I can say is that ,when I get one of the Chines violins from the factory I can spend about 3 hours to set it all up right.

After it is set-up right I have to say they are very nice.

Well as to the cost of set-up , I don`t know in your town, but here most student violins will be about $50.00 pluss strings if needed. I wish you lived closer to me, I could help you more. Ask a violin shop closer to you. Note!! Most music stores I know do not know very much about violins!! Best to go to a violin shop!!

I did forget to say that most of the cheep violins forsale on the internet need new string put on them . (I don`t say that about Violin sold by the well known companys!)

If you like ,you can email me and I will give you more information about how to get the bust violin for your money. Mr_violin@hotmail.com

I think I could have the Chinese Violin company I deal with ship a violin directly to you from china.
That would save you about 1/2 the cost of buying one any other way.

Tuning the violin: The violin Has G string, D string , A,string, and E string. I realy don`t think your tuner will work to well.

Hi Necronio,

I am a young violin teacher and I created a website: http://violinfromscratch.com.

You will find the absolute fundamentals about how to hold your bow and how to position your fingers. I made some clear detailed pictures zo you learn it the right way.
