Hi

I've been playing the viola for a year now but now it is school holidays and I can't find a single viola teacher in the area but there are a lot of violin teachers so I was wondering, would learning the violin help with viola?

I am not a teacher, but I play violin and viola. I think most violin teachers could teach you on the viola too. There is not that much differents. You could take up the violin too.
You just have to remember that viola has no E string . The G is the same as the violin and so is the D and A. They are not in the same loacation . you have the C then G then D then A. It would only take you a day or two to get used to that.

Definitely yes.
If you do not pay attention to the differences between 2 instruments, and do not see the strings in Alphabet characters A, B, C, D, you see the musics of the 2 instruments are the same. There is one single music for both.

What about music reading?

Violin uses the Treble clef, while viola predominantly uses the C clef. Wouldn't that take a while to get used to?

Oh, yes.
It takes a long while to get familiar or used to the new clef.
However, when you play by ear, you see no difference.
Someone have heavier bow for Viola, but I play Viola with a Violin bow.
Maybe Viola have slower responsiveness than Violin in general,
but amongst the Violins, only the expensive ones have better responsiveness.

Well, my knowledge is that the viola is just like the violin but bigger and one different string. I am a violin player and my friend used to by one. She switched to viola and said that it was very easy to get used to the new instrument.
