I know this is probably an overdone topic here, but I have a question. I'm new to violin, and I want to know before I start trying to learn it by ear. I don't think the lowest notes of the violin solo from kansas' dust in the wind is a violin, it kinda sounds like a viola. is it possible to play on a violin. thanks in advance.

i would suggest that if you are a beginning then you should be getting sheet music instead of learning by ear...it will be must less frusterating...also, when translating music for your instrument, if the notes are below the violins range, you can always take it an octave higher. best of music!
