Good day everyone who might drop by this thread. I am very much interested to start playing the violin, It might sound weird but I am clueless on what to get as an entry level violin and which size would best fit me. I would appreciate insights on where to start and what to buy. Thanks!

hi Kelly, can't see you age here but presume you are adult in which case even if you are "small" you should get a 4/4 violin...
there are good cheap chinese on the market, look up the Cremona range sold out of LA (Saga Instruments)...I bought (after 16 years of not playing) one of their "upper" ranges and use it in my new(again) prof. career as a violinist...you can hear/see this fiddle on my sites, on myspace, youtube etc and on my own site (google "billfiddle")....
when i started to play again I played on a cheap chinese worth GBP60.-...
hope this helps and good luck!
ps...as soon as u get the fiddle, change the strings for the most expensive you can afford...THIS matters a LOT!!!! http://www.bill-stewart.org.uk

Thanks for responding bill. A friend told me I should get 4/4 size, however, you mentioned if i am "small". I stand about 5'8", does the size come directly proportional? or if you are bigger you need smaller sizes?

na, you will be fine to get the 4/4...you would need to pay BIG money to get an even half decent sounding 3/4, but am sure you can handle a full size 4/4!!!! good luck, leme know how u get on!
