Hey there peoples..
Can anyone guide me through the basic steps of settingup a violin. I got his new Palantion 350z violin and I think I got the bridge setup right. But no matter how much rosin I apply to the bow, I cant get the thing to play. Its like the bow isnt catching on to the string. I tried crosshatching and scracthing the rosin surface but I cant get any tone on the violin at all..Its like the bow is slipping off and nuthings happening!! Can anyone help please!!?

If the surface of the rosin is still shiny, then you have not got any rosin on the bow, it`s as simple as that.

Hmm, I could of sworn that somebody else asked that same question. Yes, usually scratching the new rosin block usually come first before rubbing the rosin on the bow.

i also had some difficulties - but it took me about 2h to figure it out.
1. as for the bow - put TONS of rosin on it at first - dont be afraid :c)
2. as for the tunning - if u have a computer [:P] and a cheapest microphone the case is solved - i found a program called "In-Tune Multi-Instrument Tuner"[you can find it through google.com its small but useful] so now i only turn on my cheapest possible microphone run the program and tune my violin correctly

that should about cover it :c) hope i helped :c)

Some bow hair takes a very long time to get rosin on. Of the two brands we use for student instruments, one takes the rosin really easily and the other takes a long time even with a used block of rosin. It takes time. If you haven`t spent half an hour on it and it doesn`t sound, you haven`t got enough rosin.

The other factor is how you rosin it: just bowing backwards and forwards takes a lot longer than holding the bow still and rubbing the rosin against the hair just a couple of inches at a time whilst applying pressure to the bow.

If the surface of the rosin is shiny then you haven`t got the rosin on. if the bow hair has not turned white then you haven`t got enough rosin on.

There is no other explanation unless you have bow hair that is covered in grease.

There are plenty of online programs that will play you a note to tune to. Just pick one and tune up. Or, better, get a teacher!

Do you get a note OK when you are plucking the string? It`s not clear you are from your post.

Hvae you tightened the bow up using the screw at the end? Aim to have a pencil width between hair and stick at the narrowest point.

You said you got the bridge set up right...does that mean the bridge was down when you got the violin?
If so did you check to see if your sound post is installed?
