Not to sound boastful, but I just started Suzuki book 2! The reason I am so proud is that I had alsways dreamed of learning the violin. My kids laughed at me and told me I was too old (I`m 37) to learn the violin. And here I am! I do have a hard time practicing and have to cancel some lessons becuase being a mom to 3 takes a lot of time, plus I have 2 jobs, but I am doing it! never to old to teach an old dog new tricks! Or something like that...

Keep going. I started when I was 40, I`m nearly 49 and getting better every day. I`ve just started using this site and it has helped me to improve. And it can be funny!:}

Wow! I am very inspired and encouraged by all of your learning spirit. I am 28 and my friends/cousins think it`s 2 late for me. But yes, it`s never too late to learn!

By the way, what`s everyone`s first violin?

My mom went back to college last year, or two years ago, she`s 41, I think, she went back to college to be a nurse, and she was doing great. She stopped taking classes, though because of us, I guess. Because she`s a mom to 4 and a wife. I didn`t think she should, but, she should. So, I`m just saying, there are some things that you should do, if it`s really what you want to do, and it`s not causing too many problems to be worked out, just don`t quit because your family discourages you saying you`re too old. Just thought you might want a thirteen year-old daughter`s perspective.

My first violin was factory made palatino!

It was an okay instrument, poor sound quality but great for a beginner. I made a several thousand dollar investment in my latest instrument, a wonderful violin from Potters (formerly weavers) with a fine silver mounted bow. Excellent find!

I have completed the Suzuki series, but i have not perfected it. I play selections from all books from about 6-7+ occasionally.

Why do people use the word proud when they don`t know what it means? Oh and proud does not mean happy, it means that you are better than everyone else.

Actually the word "proud" has several meanings.

1. feeling pleasurable satisfaction over an act, possession, quality, or relationship by which one measures one`s stature or self-worth: proud of one`s child; proud to serve one`s country.

2. Occasioning or being a reason for pride: “On January 1, 1900, Americans and Europeans greeted the twentieth century in the proud and certain belief that the next hundred years would make all things possible” (W. Bruce Lincoln).

3. Feeling or showing justifiable self-respect.

4. Filled with or showing excessive self-esteem.

5. Of great dignity; honored: a proud name.

6. Majestic; magnificent: proud alpine peaks.

7. Spirited. Used of an animal: proud steeds.
