Which violin do you play?

This is a thread for people to post what violins they play.

My first violin is a Andreas Zeller (Romania) factory-made violin. My dad just bought one off the shelf at a local store for under £200 since I was a beginner. The tone was absolutely bad, whining and groaning. Hours of rosin-rubbing on my bit of "horse-hair" and practice later, I love Bach : )

I still play it, the tone has gone deeper, and the whining has been reduced to the base/tenor registers.

Probably no-one will be surprised to hear that both my violin and viola are Gligas.

C. Becker & Sons

Wired with Prelude, rosined with RDM, bridged with Aubert, came with bow by Glasser. 125 USD.

It sounds like a cat being tortured.

Charles W. Liu

Wired with Obligato, rosined with no-name rosin, bridged with no-name bridge, came with no-name bow. 800 USD

Woof woof!

1) Gliga Gama 2 £350.00
2) Stentor 1 £70.00 including bow & case
3) battered old fiddle I got off eBay for £30 sterling

All three stringed with Dominants, and bowed with a £30 unnamed bow from Hobgoblin that is better than one might expect, or at least I don`t know enough to know any different.

The Gliga is by far and away the best, both in looks and tone and playability, but it`s handy having more than one so I can keep a spare at work.

The battered old fiddle has clearly had a lot of use but not misuse, and that alone makes it a desireable object, though the Gliga is still #1.

I`m a newbie, so I`ve started with a Cremona SV-175. They usually run about $129 on line $250 in the local music store, but I bought it through an Ebay seller and paid $87. I consider it my "first" violin and will eventually upgrade when I`ve got the knowledge and the bucks to do it right! The tone is nice, but nothing to write home about. Fine for starters.

yo doopee, you have an "antonius strativarious"? is that a lie? cuz first of all, you cant even spell the name correctly. its Antonius Stradivarius. secondly, tell me, if you seriously claim to have one, how much was it? if you inherited it, tell me from whom. i`ve been doing research on the Stradivari violins for ages and i have carefully kept records of so many people who has one. so dont lie.

Doopee could also have one of the Strad copies in which they change the spelling of the original master`s name. I`ve seen some where they make the V a U and such.
