I know that there`s previously a post regarding the violin u use. But is there a brand that u prefer or adore? (Stradivarius and Gauneri apart). BTW, do u think that Roth is better or Jurgen Klier or Jochen Voigt or Sofia? I know it`s not fair to compare instruments like that, caz each may be a class apart, and very up much to the individual. But I need some help, caz I`ve only played Roth out of these 4 listed. I need to know how it`s like to play on them. So, comments, anyone? Thank U.

When I say Roth, I mean Ernst Heinrich Roth. What abt. Gliga? I realise u guys really adore Gliga from the comments u post in the previous thread.

What other brands do pp in your country usually play then? Is it because most of the shop sells Gliga? Or is it a climate thing? We have to be very careful abt. the brands and wood of the violin from where I come from. Caz it`s so hot and humid here. So cheaper violins tend to go from bad to worse to dead overtime.

Why do u need to know which one is better? I think they would all have their own strength and weaknesses. By the Way..The thing about climate...Heah! U sound really like my Lecturer. She just told us about that some time ago. Where`re u from ?

Judging from the time that u post this. I would say you should come from the same region as me, or at least same side of the equator. Unless! U have problem sleeping in the wee hours of the night? sorry, I can`t tell u my Nationality. Caz I recently posted something regarding the attire of our Symphony Orchestra...it`s a litlle bit silly and I don`t want my collegues to know it`s ME. Hmm..Why I need to know about the different violins..Caz I was asked to place some orders for the string dept. And I was approached by sooo many dealers, and some brands I have played b4, and some not even heard of. That`s why I need to know. Really imp. Well, actually, I did play Jurgen Klier b4, and the sound was really defined and agressive, but I don`t know if that applies to other models of this same brand. Thank U.

I am from the bottom half of the equator. Relax, I don`t think I am your lecturer, (though I`m one myself). Caz I was busy auditioning some new teachers 2 days ago, on Friday, from 10 to 1pm. I wasn`t teaching then so u couldn`t have met me that day, so I am not your SHE. Relax!

Hee...but relax, I won`t go around telling people who you are, for I just read the post regarding attire. Yap! It`s silly. it`s not like the you I know at all. Hee! But you don`t know who I am right? Sorry ah Lecturer! Don`t mean to be rude, but you`ve got a spelling error. U mean student right? Not atusent..Hee! Regarding that Adore thing. Don`t take it as a casual remark. I mean it. I really adore you. U are one hell of a virtuoso, and I respect u for that. And u are one hell of a Musician, and I admire u for that. But most importantly, U are the bestest teach` I`ve ever had. And for that, i give my heartfelt gratitude. Thankz!

DW, i assume you`re in the US.

Gliga is VERY uncommon over here. In fact we are the only people in the UK importing them. The British music industry is very conservative and few dealers look beyond the names they already know. This is probably partly due to the fact that, in my experience, 80% of queries to US importers asking to buy their instruments are never answered.

The market leader over here is Stentor, I don`t think they are at all well known in the US. Antoni is a lesser known and less respected name. United Music, formerly Boosey and Hawkes, import some Czech and German instruments, and there are some relatively new wholesalers importing from China, the best known being The Soundpost with brand names like Primavera. Poller violins are over here, and they`re not bad, but I don`t know who imports them (they`re not exactly well advertised).

High quality Chinese instruments (above £500) seem to be very uncommon over here, the norm seems to be to go from a beginner`s instrument to an older German instrument rather than to a quality new instrument.

I`ve played on a Roth before. But I don`t know whether it`s the one you`re talking about. It sounds quite ok to me. But is selling for only 300 bucks. How much is yours selling? Why does your college need to buy violins? Don`t your students bring their own instruments? Just curious. :>
