Thanks for replying. I dun think it`s the same Roth we`re talking abt. That, I played, was 7000+...And the tone was amazingly rich and velvety. BTW, We always keep stock of different brands in the college, caz we need to use them in workshops( to show students and get them to describe/review as a full essay). But more imp. so for the ensembles programmes( tone colour control ).Not all violins are suitable as quartet instrument. And not all students own a violin or at least one that they are pleased with...esp. the pupils taking strings as a 2nd minor study. So we run it like a rental thing here. And most imp. we keep them as `spares` in the event that our students` instruments were to meet with mishaps during an assessment, recital or tour concert, then we are able to deal with it swiftly. Oh My, I`m really beginning to sound like those annoying Management people. Hope that satisfies yr curiosity.

I know the Klier series my dearest Lecturer. It`s really agressive. Typical German violins I guess. Very rich and powerful tone, but not so economic wise. The cheapest in the more advanced collection is 4000, and it goes all way to 8000. But I`ll luv to play on them. Imagine me playing my Brahms Concerto on that agressive baby. Yeow!

Klier is German. very German. That`s why I dun really like it. Too agressive. Not flexible enough..esp. when used as a chamber instrument. It justs kills all the other instruments. And I find the sound too `open`. But there are pp who really like that kinda sound. ;<

How about JOchen vogts violins? Anyone tried them before or own one? Am interested to hear how they sound after it has been seasoned. Are they comparable to Italian ones?
