Does anyone know if Czechoslovakian violins are any good? older ones, not brand new ones?

Certainly better than old CHinese ones1

I think the short answer is that violins of any nationality vary greatly. There`s no reason not to look at a Czech violin. If it`s a tatra by rosetti i`d steer clear though.

I`ve played one b4...sounds more like a briskling Romanion to me...But dun know whether it`ll be the same for all.

Hi just read your discussion and in my grandfather loft we found a dusty old tatra by rosetti. I had though about restoring it and learning to play it but your thread suggests not to. I have two questions 1) why are they not much good and 2) how old would it be (just out of curosity as it would make a nice wall decoration)

eh not all chinese are bad you know. I have a chinese cello that is better than any cello i have ever played. It all depends on if the wood was aged proplerly and the craftmanship. Same goes with Chech violins
