I have a sort of dillema. I started violin about 1 year and 5 months ago, and really really like it. Right now I`m working on La Folia in Suzuki book 6. I started playing the piano around 1st grade (I`m in 10th now), and really liked it then.

The thing is, I like the violin a lot more than the piano, but do not know how to tell my parents (let alone my teacher) that I might want to stop taking piano lessons. I would still play every now and then, I mean I still like it, but I think I could do a lot better on the violin if I didn`t have to worry about practicing for piano.

I really don`t know what to do. They might get mad b/c I am a decent piano player (working on Rach`off`s Prelude in C sharp minor). Any advice on what I should do or any experience in these types of matters would be very helpful. Thanks for any advice!

Don`t drop piano. Tou might come to bitterly regret it. I`m no pianist but it sounds as if you;re at a high standard. Try to keep both up even if you don`t do as much piano practice as before.

Hey me too. I`ve been playing the piano for some time, and after picking up the violin for nearly two years, my love and obsession for the violin has been increasng and is still growing daily. i have since lost interest in playing the piano, though it had been my first love. I feel that the violin is so much more expressive than the piano (just a personal remark, no offence to pianists)

That`s cool realizing that someone is in a similiar situation. I also think it is easier to express yourself using the violin as opposed to the piano. A piano can be musical, but I think that the violin is more musical. I think I`ll keep up piano and see what happens...

Tim,

Why do you need a piano teacher for if you can already play it well? You can only get tutored so much before you don`t need it anymore; I mean what is the piano teacher going to teach you that you don`t already know. If you make mistakes then go back and play it again. With the violin, you probably are still a beginner and need a lot more practice and need a violin teacher to teach stuff that you don`t even know.
