I am a beginner, but progressing rapidly on my own. I have been using mandolin tablature downloaded from websites and I am also in the process of diagraming all the major, pentatonic, blues, and harmonic minor scales for practicing and learning the neck. I hope I`m holding the bow right... I notice that when I am site reading the tabalture that my bow tends to slowly slide either toward the neck or too close to the bridge, but I guess that problem will go away with time. The violin I am learning on is a Cremona SV-100 and although it gets the job down, I really want to get a nice instrument. I hadn`t played violin in two years since last week. I`m living in France and my friends brought my violin over from the states. Anyway, to make a long story short, I`m really getting into violin now and I want a good instrument and am willing to spend as much as 2000 €uros or so. There are lots of violin shops on the Rue de Rome in Paris, but I don`t know where to begin. I am hoping some people can give me advice on which brands will be best for me. Mirecourt keeps coming up on searches I`ve done on French search engines, but I have also heard of Gliga and Stringworks from another website. Should I buy used or new? I am focusing on learning celtic and bluegrass now for the most part, but would eventually love to progress towards learning some Stephane Grappelli, eventually some Bach maybe and one of my personal favorites, Astor Piazzolla......I think shooting for the Paganini caprices is a little out of the question for the time being but I can dream. Maybe someone could recommend French, German, Italian or other European luthiers that make or made instruments in my price range. I just need suggestions on what kind of violin would best suit my needs and price range. Thanks for any advice!
