Squeeks on E-string.... Bow need re-hairing or string replacement?    14:07 on Saturday, December 6, 2003

Hello everyone, I`ve been practicing a lot lately and noticed that my E-string is squeeking a LOT more! I haven`t consulted my teacher about it, but I`m pretty sure that it isn`t my fault. It`s the annoying kind of squeek where I have to stop playing for it to stop! My bow hasn`t been re-haired in more than a year, and my E is a little less than a year old. Could either of these be causing it, or is this only caused by a fault in technique?

It`s really annoying when I`m finally getting some tricky double stops in tune and find my E string giving up and I have to stop! Pleas help!

Try replacing the string, new strings can make a big difference to your sound. Is there any particular time when it squeeks the most, for instance when your in a higher position? Does it squeek when you are playing just an open string?

I replaced the string yesterday and I think that was it. It didn`t squeek when I was playing open strings. Thanks for the help!
