ok i just started to learn the violin. but how come when you play it it never lets out a good sound it always comes out as a painful screech. i find this with all violinists who are just starting to learn.
how do i make it sound right? there must be some people out there who are past grade 8 and can play it without the awful screech. could you tell me how to make it sound right? thankyou

I`m new to it as well but, have found one answer. PRACTICE. Sorry about that but. it`s true. I, too, have produced many sounds hitherto undreamed of in music, usually it is because of poor bow control, letting it wander over the neck or down to the bridge.
Courage mon brave. You are not alone.

As Jeff says, you need to develop better bow control.
The bow should touch the strings between the bridge and the end of the fingerboard, crossing at right angles. If your bow slides up the fingerboard it will cause squeaks.
Too much or too little bow pressure can also cause squeaks and shrieks.
Too much or too little rosin on your bow may also cause the bow to grate or slide too much.
