Has anyone had any luck playing from violin tabs or are they a waist of time?

a waist of time?

Give it a few (or lots) years and the spelling might be right.

By tabs, if you mean stickers to help you learn where to depress the strings against the neck- Yes, my teacher started me out with just three strips, to learn positions 1, 2 & 3. I already read music though, so I was not as likely as some students to become dependent upon them for finding a note. I`ve played less than 2 weeks now and I watch the music, but occasionally I do watch my hands to check how I`m doing or find my place if I get really lost and I find the stickers helpful. But I`m also aware that I can`t play well watching my fingers and not the notes. The stickers are starting to wear off from all my practicing and I`m letting them fall off and don`t plan on replacing them once they are gone. I think they help a rock bottom beginner like training wheels help, but they should be something you work towards learning to play without.

Actually I meant tabs like guitar tabs that show you what string your fingers have to be on to play each note...well check this link out this has a lot of tabs for the fiddle.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! *light bulb goes on*

I have some of those but I far prefer reading music. I find these more confusing and if I need help remembering which finger position, I`ll right O,1,2 or 3 over the note. When I`m on one note moving to another, I don`t have a problem knowing which string it would be on.
