Hope you enjoy it. I was happy when my personal postman (the nextdoor neighbour) gave me a well wrapped parcel. It wasn`t overwhelming, however, because I knew I wouldn`t get a decent sound out of it. It will be different when I get round to ordering an upgrade. Then there will be a flurry of paper and bubblewrap.

Hi! This is my first message, and yes, I remember very well what it was buying my violin. I went with my teacher (now a close friend) to many shops and he was testing the violins I could afford. We returned to the first shop to play more with one in particular. Although it was chinese, he started to play some beatiful passages, and said "this one really has something, maybe the machine was "inspired" when they made it...let`s see what it has inside"...and then he started playing this fast romanian and polish tunes- he`s from Poland- that almost made me cry (I had chills all along my spine!! ). Finally I bought that one...and love it!

Although I don`t remember how that day went, I still remember the feeling I got when I saw the all too familiar case waiting for me on that table. My grandpa was beaming and his eyes twinkled as I approached the case and laid my hands on the black plywood case. I did not speak, but I opened it and stared at the light-reddish brown instrument, its gleaming finish looked inviting, yet I was reluctant to take it. I strummed the strings as if it would all disappear once I touched it. Yet from that touch, perfect fifths flew out (old tuning method). It was ready for me.

Unfortunately, I wouldn`t be ready for it until another 2 years. And then I had to part with it. It is still at a place I call home, and I will return to it.. one day.

I remember that day vividly...it was just a short three weeks ago. Boy how time flies when you`re playing. I arrived at my local violin shop promptly at opening time and announced to the proprietor my desires. She, a member of the Virginia Symphony, picked out five very nice instruments. She placed me and the fab five in a music room to the rear of the store where I could be alone with these lovely pieces of art. I started by playing scales and the few pieces that I had learned on my daughters 1/2 size. Very quickly the cream rose to the top and was situated to my far right on the table before me. I had them arranged in order from most favorite to least right to left. I even tried to swap the first two but after about an hour of playing the original favorite found its place on my right once again. There before me was my Santaro Lucci from the shop of Christopher Pu. Yes, it too was a chinese model. Amazing how these Chinese violins seem to be calling to us. I found that my Chinese was easier to play, sounded better, and looked to be of higher quality than european models I tested. I may never be able to part with it.

I picked up my `new` violin on Friday - and the case I ordered...AND my new bow. I was on Cloud Nine. I`m still kinda on a high - can`t wait to get home and practice each night!

You said it right there,
"can`t wait to get home and practice each night!"
No matter how work goes, how life is treating me, I
go home and play...play for me.
