Tighten up the bow so the hair is a pencil width away from the wood at the nearest pint.
Take the Hidersine rosin and rub it along the length of the bowhair, about 50 times. If the surface of the rosin was shiny before, this should be enough to dull the surface round the edge. Rotate the rosin after each stroke so you get smooth wear around the edge. The dip in the middle will not wear away for some time yet.
Draw the bow across the strings - you should now get some sound.
After this initial priming of the bow, you should not need more than a couple of strokes of the rosin once a week week, even if you play for several hours a week.
It`s a good idea to wipe off excess rosin that drops from your bow onto the violin (in the form of a whitish powder) at least once a week, before it hardens, using a dry duster or soft cloth. This powdered rosin can eat away at the varnish and ultimately lower the value of your instrument if left alone, and is unsightly.

Sometimes the resin is to hard, and will make only a faint dust. What I found is effective is hold the resin over a boiling kettle for 10-15 seconds and then rub on your bow. Your resin will be softer after that. If you don`t have resin, and don`t want any, might as well sell your violin, you`ll never make a noise of well, violin without resin.
