Hi everybody!
Does anyone have any tips or techniques to practice the violin in silence? I just don`t want to bother my roommates or the people upstairs at my apartment.

Clip clothes pegs onto the bridge, and/or drape a duster over the F holes. You can secure the duster by clipping it to the bridge with a clothes peg.
Simple & cheap.

1. Get a mute.
2. Clip the bridge.
3. Use a new, unrosined bow.

I think trying to `tone down` yr volume will definately affect yr bowing in the long run...whatever method u used. So the bottom line: U can practice in the silent mode once in a while and that`s it. U should still try to practice in full volume every now and then.
