All fellow violinists!

I`m currently making a website forum (a little like this one) for violinists to signup and write about themselves, put up CVs, Discuss the Art, Debate etc etc. Also uploads of audio files (any format, mp3 or wav) members recorded and file sharing.

I just want to build a community on the web specially for musicians..

But i need people`s advice on this, on what violinists think of the site etc. Please comments appreciated! At the moment i have 4 different forums, but would love to know what more you think they should be. I`m currently thinking... playing tips and advice???

The address is http://soloviolin.com/music
Please take a moment to have a look!

I`m also looking for moderators for the forum (they`d make sure the forums stays in good order)

And one of my old recordings http://soloviolin.com/hora.mp3 i`m playing hora staccato there. lol
Give me some feedback if you like.

All the Best

James

You will need a forum about the hardware of the violin, not everybody will want to buy/sell, they may just have a question.

I don`t want to be too negative, but ae you sure you`re not duplicating something already on the web? I have six different violin forums bookmarked, and it`s hard to keep tabs on them all. If you want to take an active part in a forum, why not offer your services as a moderator for someone else?

I don`t know what kind of `clientele` you`re aiming for...but I`m in the `amateur but keen` group of adults that seem to like to chit-chat and exchange ideas...

...we seem to be a fairly talkative bunch...you might want to have a spot for us too...

You were thinking about playing tips and advice. I think that would be a fantastic idea! I`m hoping to get a violin soon and start learning, and it would be great to have an area dedicated to people who are having problems learning a particular technique, or who just want a bit of advice.

It is arguable (is that how you spell it?) to say that you can ask for advice here on 8 notes, but I think that if you were to have an area purely for help, that would be a great idea!

Hi,
thanks to both of you for your replies!
Martin - yes i agree with you in many respects, after your advice, added the violin technique section. But i feel i`m not duplicating anything, i do find differences between the violin forums i find on google and this one.

Nox - i agree with you also, perhaps it doesn`t look so inviting to less experienced players, you`re right. So far since 2 days since its opening, half the members are quite advanced players, who have uploaded a few mp3 of their playings (i just love this!) and they are either major conservatoires students, my friends or pro performers. But we also had a few "amateurs". One of them uploaded a mp3 too! I think the answer to your question on "whos the target?" is anybody who wishes to know more about the violin and wants to meet others who play!

Many of my friends will be coming as new members in the coming weeks, some from major conservatoires such as Moscow, Paris, julliard etc etc. But i think at these hard times (for classical musicians) amateurs and hobby players are the most important people in the business.

This website is just one idea to keep the violin people together. I`m sure amateurs and hobby players would love to have experienced, serious players around on forums? Vice-versa.

But i take your point, must add a forum now!

James
