Hello my friends
I have a vibrato problem. I have started playing viola again after a 2 year gap. When I vibrato, the join where the 1st finger meets my actual hand rubs against the neck of my viola and prevents the movement I require for a flowing vibrato. I feel that I use my left hand to support the weight of my viola rather than just my chin and shoulder. I believe this also hinders my vibrato technique. Can any one advise me on how to correct these two problems?

I would ask my teacher by I can`t afford to pay her extortionate half hourly rate any more.

Cheers, Kev

Get a good shoulder rest that will stabilize your hold when doing vibrato. You will be suprised to realise how much easier it`ll be with a better shoulder rest.
Make sure your palm is away from the neck. Don`t stick it to the neck. So, lower your hand slightly and relax totally.
For more professional advice/information...you might wanna post in this professional website with lots of experienced violinists. Check out our orchestral recordings there, and you can upload your playing there also. The latest amazing recording was done by one of our advanced member on Paganini`s Caprice 5.
