I need help and soon! I need to buy new violin stirngs! My instructor told me to get hem by next week. This is the first time I ever bought strings and dont know what the difference between BALL and LOOP ends please tell me what they are and/or which ones to get. This is greatly appreciated! Well, ball ends have a little ball on the end (hence the name) that fit through the little hole in the tail piece and hold the string tight...

Loop ends are loops and you pull the string through the loop around the tail piece.

If you have adjusters...there is a type for each type of string. If you don`t, I think it`s primarily personal preference.

Your teacher should have recommended one or two brands to try and should have told you which type you needed. I find it odd that he/she didn`t do this.

If in doubt, take your violin to the music store with you.
