I have two old violins and have trouble believing the labels.

First, Nicolaus Amatus fecit in Cremona 1657

Second, Andreas Amati fecit Cremonae ano 1662, then in different print, made in germany

Where can I go on the net to find out more about these instruments and their value? Google has been most skimpy with this subject!!!!!

Thanks,

Bruce

You really can`t get a meaningful appraisal on the net, you need to take them to an expert. The label in a violin means nothing, labels can be faked.

Chances are these are turn of the century copies, and maybe nice violins in their own right.

www.oriscus.com can give you some help. i am a violin teacher just returned back from italy and have quite a bit experience on the subject but i`m a generalist as for appraisal there are professionists.
In general it is to believe u have very small likelihood of having an original violin. Many copies were made of the italian violins considred the best especially in the 17th century. Hope to have given some help. Giuseppe
