I`m starting with violin and am annoyed by the bow. It vibrates when i`m playing, is it normal? What can I do? It`s desperating and it`s discouraging me from playing. Please, help!

I think there might be another thread here on the subject...you might want to look around a little.

It could be you just need to practice your bowing...pressing a little harder when it bounces and letting off a little when it dosen`t. Or perhaps your bow is too light?

Most of it is likely due to bowing technique. There are a variety of exerices, that while rather dull to play, are actually really good for overall bow handling!

Thank you. I guess it is the technique; i`m getting stressed now (a little bit), and i think it`s adding more bouncing.

Yeah...They`re alot of threads on this. Don`t worry, everybody gets this problem and needs to grow out of this. I too had this problem 24 yrs ago. Go here for pro advice. http://www.soloviolin.com
But this`s my personal suggestion :
1. Do alot of basic bowing ex. full bow, separate, minims, then crotchets, then quavers. Go to soloviolin.com for a full instruction on this.
2. Release the tension of the bow a little. Tension produces excellent articulation, but may prove tricky to the beginner. The more tension, the harder it is too wield the bow.
3. Drop yr shoulders completely. Staying relaxed at the correct angle will alter the bow speed and gives you a better downward pull.
4. Learn to get a good bite on the strings.
5. Don`t raise your wrist.
6. Keep your finger 5 tip of the right hand on the bow. This will help to balance the bow.
7. Do the bow swaying ex. Hold it in the right position tightly and sway it left to right. Keep the hand still while doing this.
8. Do the bow balancing see-saw ex.
9. Do alot of scales, full bow and seperate. Minims, crotchets then quavers. Start with up-bow instead of the usual downbow first.
10. Use wohlfahrt. Do not use Kayser...it might be too sdvanced for u.
11. Check your elbow angle. U might be moving your elbows too much. Always move it up and down( string adjustment), and not in and out.
12. Do swim alot to build strong arms. Pls do not carry weights. Excessive muscles building and bad distribution produces tensed co-ordination. Go to soloviolin.com for more reasons on why u shouldn`t lift weights to stabilize bowing.
Thank you.

try pushing with your bow index finger a bit it will do a *bow push-up* on the string. and the sound that comes out of your violin will be much rounder as well !

For legato, you may lift up your pinky, if you like.

I have a comment on the theory books that you`ve mentioned. Wohlfahrt is indeed less difficult than Kayser, but it focuses mostly on theory. Kayser focuses more on technique. Since this bowing problem is a technique thing, I`d think Kayser would be better.
One more thing: Stay away from Suzuki.

Why staying away from Suzuki? I like the fact of being able to play nice melodies from the beginning ... I`m in book 3 and i like the pieces, despite my horrible sound due to my poor bowing technique, as you say. I`m trying to to better with your explanations and the videos in the webpage:
http://www.uvm.edu/~mhopkins/string/?Page=movies.html

There is only one difference from my new theacher technique and the videos. She told me to put the first joint of the index finger on the bow rather than second joint. Is that correct ?

Can`t you just order from Amazon or some other store? Or are customs a problem?

i`m afraid they are. Only the taxes themselves will be about 50$ and thats really much for me. so i`m looking for other ways to either view or aquire them.
