I have recently purchased a book from a second hand store. It was printed in 1913? It does not have a date, but inside there are stamps, to show the student that owned it, their progress. I have looked it over. The book is called The Comprehansive Scale and Arpeggio Manual for Violin, and it was written by Léon J. Fontaine. Now, inside, on the first page, is the authors name. I know much about texts, fonts and the flow in general of writing. It looks as if this person knew what he was writing, and has practised the name many times. So it may indeed be Leon`s name? On the front too is a stamp, which reads: Mon(unable to read anymore) Piano House LIMITED. (Unable to read) Govornment street Victoria B.C.
Now, I live a few hours away from there, so I am tempted to go there and figure it out. And it was published by Edwin Ashdown. LTD
And is approved by the Royal College of Music, and Royal Academy of Music. I belive the book came from either New York 5. East 14th street, or the other address on the front of it was Toronto 143. Vonge Street. The book is very tattered...
I have looked all over on the internet regarding the book, author and the places (And Academy/College of Music) and found nothing! Tomorrow I am riding up the the local library. I can`t do much right now, as I live in a Village. Oh well... Please help me figure this out. I would like to know if the signature is really Fontaine`s or not.. Please tell me anything you know about this, all is appreciated! Thanks!
