I know what a double stop is but I need help with mine. In the song I am currently playing the double stop is on the A and E string. it`s about 8 notes in a row and I can get the first note nice and the bow balanced but after that it falls apart. I either have too much pressure on the A or on the E. Do I just need more practice or is there something that can help me? When I do it correctly it sounds horrible too! What am I doing wrong?

You just need to practise. Playing double stops is not really any more difficult than playing single strings. I bet when you first started you had trouble NOT hitting a second string, now you`re having trouble playing two strings evenly.
Just practise. Getting that right wrist to perform consistently is one of the difficulties of playing violin - and when you conquer it you`ve made a great leap forward.

Using a lot of pressure helps me. Use your wrist as well, especailly on the A and E strings bcoz there low and easy to use pressure.

I have been reading about using 2nd and 3rd position to get better action and tonal quality to my double stops. BUT is this a hunt and peck method or is there any methodology to it. For instance the G#/E give me the dickens. I can play it but the action is so slow to return to an easier 3rd double stop. I think the cajun guys have the right idea, play them all in 6ths and 9 times out of ten you have at least one open string. Action and automaticity is what I am trying to fiqure out when looking at or hearing a tune with serial double stops. Any Ideas.
