I have been playing the violin for about a year now. I love it and play about 2 hours a day. I was listening to some violin playing by an electric violin and I love the sound! It`s great and I would love to get one. Should I be playing the violin longer than 1 year before switching to the electric violin? Yes I know they are the same but I don`t know if I can handle how to make the quality of sound using everything an Electric Violin has to offer. Can some one who plays the electric violin help? Maybe post some websites that will explain more. Thanks a lot.

The thing with an electric violin is that it is not forgiving at all when you play. You will hear every single squeek, off-key note, every scratch. every single imperfection while you play. Well, you won`t hear it, but the amp will pick it up. I love the sound of my electric, but I don`t play on it unless it is unplugged right now. A person almost needs to be flawless to play the instrument well.

In that case, wouldn`t it make more sense to get an electric violin and play with it amped? It would force you to become a better player, and would be much more benefitial in the long run
